Nestled in the heart of Seattle’s historic Chinatown-International District, Mike's Noodle House is a cherished Cantonese noodle restaurant that brilliantly captures the essence of authentic Chinese comfort food. From the moment you step through its doors at 418 Maynard Ave S, you are welcomed by the enticing aroma of freshly made noodles and simmering broths that whisper stories of tradition and family recipes passed down through generations.
The culinary spotlight at Mike’s is certainly on their masterfully crafted noodle dishes and soul-warming soups. Signature plates such as the 鲜虾净云吞 Wonton Soup, featuring delicate shrimp-stuffed wontons swimming in a clear, savory broth, exemplify the restaurant’s dedication to freshness and balance. Equally impressive is the 紫菜双丸汤 Squid Ball & Beef Ball w/ Seaweed Soup, a hearty blend that marries tender meatballs with the briny essence of seaweed, creating layers of umami richness with each sip.
For those seeking a heartier, velvety option, the congee offerings, like the 及第粥 Mix Meat Congee and 猪润粥 Pork Liver Congee, provide a warm and soothing experience—comfort food at its finest. The congee here is renowned enough to be considered an institution by locals, with a texture so smooth it melts on the tongue, enhanced by delicately prepared meats and fresh ingredients.
Beyond the signature noodles and congee, Mike’s Noodle House serves irresistible sides such as the Homemade Fish Balls and Fish Cakes, which offer a pleasingly springy bite, and the 油条 一条 Chinese donut, perfect for dipping into steaming soups or congee. The restaurant’s hot tea and thoughtfully prepared hot oil add layers of flavor that elevate the entire meal.
Stepping into Mike’s is like entering a vibrant little corner of Cantonese culinary heritage. The atmosphere is unpretentious—your attention is firmly on the food, lovingly handmade and served with quiet pride. The diligent staff can often be seen speedily assembling wontons by hand, a testament to their commitment to authenticity and quality.
Customer experiences reflect this deep appreciation for Mike’s. Longtime visitors such as Lesly W. fondly recall the strong, nostalgic aromas and the undeniable authenticity of the wonton noodles — a dish so true to Cantonese roots that it feels like a warm embrace. Naomi Liu enthusiastically praises the dumplings and soups, declaring them superior even to what she’s tried in China. While some note small challenges, like the cash-only policy or the market price of certain vegetables, these are minor notes alongside the immense respect and love patrons have for the cuisine.
Whether you’re seeking a comforting bowl of wonton and beef noodles, a delicate congee packed with rich flavors, or a simple, honest meal made with care and tradition, Mike’s Noodle House delivers with warmth and authenticity. It’s a culinary sanctuary for anyone longing to experience the soul of Cantonese noodle culture right in Seattle.
Decent bowl of wonton and beef noodles. Mix was a little odd for the soup. Hard to pay 13 bucks for gailan knowing what it costs to buy it, but veggies are needed.
Mike's Noodle House has a special place in my heart because it is one of the earliest memories of dining in here before I moved to Seattle. I would frequently come here with my family. I would walk on by the streets in Chinatown and be drawn to the strong aromas. Out of all the restaurants I've tried, this is by far the most authentic spot for wonton noodles. The menu is simple but has a lot of customizations. My absolute go-to is the beef brisket and wonton/suikau noodle soup. I love that they offer combinations so that I get to have variety. I usually like to sub the egg noodles for wide rice noodles. The broth is always flavorful and the taste has not changed over the last decade I've been coming. Also another classic dish is the congee which is paired well with the Chinese donuts. Service is efficient. It can get crowded since it's not a big space but tables open up fairly quickly. A few downsides is the cost of the food has gone up while the portion sizes have not changed. Also, this is still a cash only establishment but they do accept Venmo or Zelle.
Okay when people told me there is no legit Chinese restaurant in Seattle I had no expectations for this place. However this place blowed my minds and the dumplings, soup, wonton everything they have are even better than what I had in China. If you love Chinese dumplings please gooooooo!
This place is a congee institution. First thing first: this is a cash only place. Come prepared. There was a time when the congee would sell out well before closing, so you were lucky if you managed to get some at lunch. The staff can be seen hand-making the amazing wontons at super speed. Some of the best dishes are the sides of Chinese broccoli and the kidney and liver dish that comes with ginger and cilantro and an amazing soy sauce that includes diced jalapeño peppers. But you have to try the wonton soup, there are two kinds of dumplings: one is mushroom base and it is incredible. The other pork shrimp is also great. Congee: We go for the rockfish and pumpkin congee and highly recommend the chicken congee as well. Sometimes we add the pink vinegar other times the jalapeño soy sauce, and another chili sauce that is incredibly rich in flavor (I've had to figure out exactly what goes in). Parking is always a challenge in the international district but that's just par for the course. Be awesome to the servers because they are super chill, and tip heavy.
One of the reasons to love Seattle and the diverse choices in food. I chose the beef brisket #9 with dumplings. The dumplings had shrimp and pork. Everything was excellent.
